Jones Day has a unique non-rotational
training system. There are no
strict parameters, no set routines and no two training contracts
are the same. Our system will give you freedom, flexibility
and responsibility from the start of your training.
You won't share an office with a senior lawyer and
you won't have to compete with your peers to secure your preferred
training seats. Instead, you will be offered the chance to
work across different practice areas simultaneously and develop
skills and knowledge at the pace that's right for you. You'll
build relationships with clients and colleagues throughout
your training contract and be responsible for managing your
own time and how you get things done. We know that transactions
and cases don't fit into neat six month slots and at Jones
Day you won't miss the end of a deal or trial because you've
moved departments. We'll give you early responsibility and
your contribution will make a difference.
Excellent support underpins the freedom and flexibility
of the training system. Each trainee has a senior lawyer
as a mentor. Monthly group and quarterly individual reviews
take place to monitor the work you are doing and the work
you want to do. We run a structured training programme of
weekly seminars, to supplement the training requirements
of the Law Society, which are designed to ensure you obtain
appropriate experience in the major practice areas. You'll
also receive thorough practical training and feedback from
the lawyers you are working with.
Most importantly, you'll be encouraged to be proactive
and to discuss with us how to shape your training to ensure
you are best equipped for life as a lawyer.
If you wish
to apply for a training contracts commencing in September 2010 or March
2011, we will be accepting applications from final year law and non-law
students from November 1st 2007. If you are a penultimate year law undergraduate
you should apply between your penultimate and final years of study once
you have received your 2nd year exam results.
If you are interested in applying for our Spring or Summer placement
schemes we will open for applications on 31st October 2008. For more information
see placement schemes.
